Dr Mahesh Patil Takes Over Charge As Thane SP ( Rural)

The name of Vasant Dhoble assistant commissioner of police (Mumbai) now retired is famous for his stern action against eateries and dance bars that were engaged in any kind of unlawful activities during his stint.  For those who keep a tab on police action on unlawful trades another name that sends shivers down the spines of lawbreakers is that of, DCP Dr.Mahesh Patil. In a recent reshuffle of police personnel he has taken charge as Superintendent of Police, Thane (Rural).The news has put the bar owners on alert and in a cautious mode.  The bar owners have now literally started ‘hom-havan’ (Hindu rituals to fulfil one’s desire) to woo Dr.Patil. Patil’s disgust for unlawful activities is an open fact .He has a proven track record of giving restless nights to bar owners. And as SP Thane (Rural) he has the opportunity to display his charismatic personality.

Dr. Mahesh Patil a 2008 batch IPS officer has been posted throughout Maharashtra including Ahmednagar, Pune, Nanded, Nagpur and Mumbai. Patil is known for his anti –trafficking, anti- gambling and anti social element image. He believes that ultimately virtues like hard work, honesty and strong will power always reap positive results.

Speaking to a weekly tabloid newspaper Thane Rural SP, Dr. Mahesh Patil said, “We will continue with our action here too. Our aim is to stop unlawful activities and not to target any one particular sector.  We shall provide complete assistance to those who approach us with any complaints.” SP Mahesh Patil was earlier posted as DCP Zone XI. During his tenure he closed down 30 bars operating illegally in the Borivali area, before taking charge as DCP – Enforcement wing of Mumbai Police’s crime branch.

He has registered around 60 cases in 10 days, most of which were against bars and restaurants found violating the IPC and Bombay Police Act.
